As Version 1 of the Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard is released, the BCO is pleased to see several recommendations from its expert committees incorporated into the Standard.

These include:

Introduction of “PC On Track” validation
“Deemed to satisfy” arrangements with NABERS and Passivhaus
Landlord-only and tenant-only verification for office buildings
Mixed-use rules allowing limits to be apportioned pro-rata across different uses
Clarification on the rules and derogations for PVs
Introduction of performance evaluations, allowing buildings that don’t meet all criteria (e.g., refrigerants), alongside fully compliant net zero carbon–aligned buildings, to still be recognised for the areas they achieve
